How do you do this, Germany?

With all this gun control and pacifism of yours, I mean. “Germany is now second only to the US in terms of the number of deaths that have resulted from school shootings.”

Even some of you must realize by now that your attempts to find blame for these horror fests in that threatening, shadowy and sinister thing you see as US-Amerika leads nowhere but to your own damned front doorstep. People are sick all over, sicker than you are willing to admit, but if it makes you feel better…

Finding blame is a waste of time too, by the way. But that’s another sad story.

“Mass killer ‘rejected’ by girl at party.”

  1. Did really anybody try to find an explanation for these killings in anything Americans did? At least, I can’t remember anybody doing that. Our society produces murderers as it produces artists, authors and a pope (who might be responsible for a lot more deaths than we like to realize). As does every other society in the world – at least for the former two professions. Coming up with a ranking of student killers is abhorrent, think. Also, not for everything happening here a connection to the US has to be found, don’t you agree? Cheers, Martin

  2. No, Martin, unfortunately that isn’t true. The undertone of any “intelligent analysis” of shootings like this is that America is in fact behind it. Not directly, of course, but look more closely and you will seen that the blame ritual must alway include a reference to online computer games (evil American promotion of violence/technology) or to violent American films or the lack of proper gun control (only in America). This particular shooting is a tough one to categorize in this way, I admit (that’s why I had to choose it), but just follow it closely enough and have a little patience and you’ll see what I mean. Where there’s an ill-will, there’s a way.

  3. … oh come on! Computer games are easily blamed but one could as well say that the guy wore shoes while he killed people. Allright, let’s ban shoes from schools. Good idea! A number of students play these games. My sons do – but they don’t all go out on killing sprees. No! The problem is probably press coverage – including our online discussion! – that gives sick minds an idea of how to perform these acts of insanity. Sick minds will do crazy things. A German invented the automobile. A lot more people get killed in car accidents than are killed by guns. Does any one blame “Germany”? If so it is not reasonable.
But maybe we argument for the same cause? Just from a different point of view? Sane people of all countries, unite! 😀

  4. Martin,
The difference between cars and guns is that cars aren’t deadly when used as they were intended.

If you leave guns lying around for screwed up kids to find, they’ll get used. The parents should be up for negligence leading to homicide or something to punish them for their complete stupidity.

Hermann… shades of David’s Medienkritik in this post. Yuck.

  5. Ian,
“…guns lying around…” right! And it doesn’t matter at all whether this happens in the US or in Africa, Asia or Europe.

“Cars” oh, I think they are deadly in any case. CO2, CO, NOx, etc … killing lives.
The ugliness of our cities is in part due to them being abused as places to build highways in … killing beauty.

    Cheers, Martin
