The publication last month of her novel about a 16-year-old exploring Berlin’s drug and club scene after the death of her mother, called “Axolotl Roadkill,” was heralded far and wide in German newspapers and magazines as a tremendous debut, particularly for such a young author. The book shot to No. 5 this week on the magazine Spiegel’s hardcover best-seller list.

Cool. The new Christiane F. of Deutschland. Well, Bahnhof am Zoo is no longer the center of depravity that it used to be (although it’s still pretty run-down and dirty), what with die Wende and all that.
The new Christiane F, it seems, is just a club-goer and probably snorts heroin for fun and sleeps with guys for free. I think her Dad’s a prof, for chrissakes. Jeez, where have all the authentic under-age, heroin-addicted hookers gone? Sad.
