Nothing Nouveau on the German Front

This is a very complex article, I grant you, a lot like that other one I mentioned recently, but with a little bit of effort I think I can somehow manage to summarize it for you thus (and I quote, more or less):

American society is breaking apart.

Everything is spiraling further and further into the abyss.

The American people are going through a Kafkaesque odyssey, the humiliation of which is hard to comprehend.

Help is not in sight, our government and our society have abandoned us.

Wall Street is preoccupied with chasing new profits again.

That old myth about working your way up, of bootstrap success and its ultimate prize, homeownership, has evaporated.

The middle class, America’s backbone, is crumbling.

The American Dream has turned into a nightmare.

Nothing’s going to happen because the political swing to the right is extremely hurtful and absolutely disastrous to the interest of the weakest.

Becoming unemployed is a devious trap. And on and on and tra, la, la until the amen part.

Like, you had no idea, did you? My fellow Americans, I mean. So there you have it. Yet again. And no, the O Word didn’t appear in this article either.

  1. Hey, die Zeit is pulling their weight for the Anticipated Vernichtung of Americans and the American Way of Life.

    The American Way of Scheitern.

    Amerika scheint am Ende.

What else is new, right? According to the German media elite, it seems, Amerika has always been am Ende. Damn, why can’t we exterminate those effin’ Amis? Hey, six million Jews was fun, but 300 million Amis AND a virulent form of Reiner Kapitalismus would be fantastic, stimmt?

  2. Cool link! Actually some good points in that article. Die Zeit actually publishes positive things about the US from time to time, although this isn’t one of them. The point about the US maybe being more divided right down the middle than ever before might be right on the money. Of course this is coming from a country where it’s always 90 percent+ on issues (90+ against Bush, 90+ for Obama, etc.) Oh yeah, and then there were those times in the not all so distant past where Germans were also 90 percent plus in favor of things, until it all went horribly wrong, I mean. I think I’d rather be split down the middle.

  3. HO,

I would like to add that I’ve really been enjoying the comments by all the Germans in the forums (Der Spiegel and die Zeit, in particular). While you’ll always find responses from your dead-end Ami-basher, I’ve also found lots of interesting debates with a much wider range of opinion than you actually find in the articles themselves published by the so-called Ami-experts.

  4. Looking at the forest from the outside and not only seeing single trees, I dare to say:

    Isn´t German society breaking apart?

Everyone, especially the incoming Multikulti, are spiraling further into Hartz 4.

The still working class Germans are going through a Götz von Berlichingen odyssey, which politicians find hard to comprehend.

Help is not in sight, the government and society have abandoned us since the end of two world wars.

Cities and towns, even villages are preoccupied with chasing new profits through radar investments on streets again. The Radar traps finance bankrupt cities.

That new myth about living off state amenities has dissolved all bootstrap success and its ultimate prize, is a certificate from the government after more than 7 kids are born.

The lower class, socialism´s backbone, is missing at the ballot boxes, but not at the Tafel.

The German Dream of total security has turned into a nightmare for their wallets. Immer mehr Brutto ohne mehr Netto? Wie ist das möglich?

The political snarl to the left is extremely deep-throated and absolutely fatal to the interest of the last entrepeneurs here.

Becoming unemployed is impossibe, as it was in East Germany, once Honey´s wonderland.

So there you have it. BASTA, danke, extra Wurst for nobody – no way- anytime!

  5. American society is not collapsing, as much as Germans need to finde something to hate to cover for the near-illegality of having pride in their own society.

To begin with, thie US isn’t Europe. Losing your job does not nearly guaruntee that you will remain unemployed for years on end.

While it’s no picnic, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt: much of the problem stems from the policies of a president that they irrationally idolize with an enthusiasm akin to those needing a Fuererprinzip to feel like they’re alive.

Moreover, our “deep, devastating rate of unemployment” is still in the range -normal- to most of Europe when NOT in an economic recession.

So as predictable as Mark Pitzke is, he needs to shut his pie hole if he’s isn’t going to report honestly on the subject of American society.
