Thousands of people jeered in Munich when the International Olympic Committee’s decision to select Pyeongchang of South Korea over the German city as the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics was announced on Wednesday.

Remember that the good folk of nearby Garmische-Partenkirchen, recently held a held a civic plebescite. They decided that if Munich wished to host the Winter Olympics in 2018, they should do it without the town’s ski-jump and train to the Zugspitze. Not a good omen for the bid.
By coincidence, the referendum was held on teh same day that Britons soundly defeated the Alternative Voting System. Which just goes to show, that if you schedule a special vote on a non-election day, the pnly people who will turn up at the booth are those who have an axe to grind and want to stop it, rather than those who think it might be a good idea.
