Germany’s Maas says Turkey ‘invasion’ illegitimate under international law – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has described Turkey’s offensive against Syrian Kurds as an “invasion” and said Berlin saw it as illegitimate. The EU may yet impose economic sanctions on Turkey, Maas said.
“We have been very clear that we are keeping other measures open — and they might also include economic sanctions.”
German tanks are apparently being used by Turkish forces in their current offensive against the Kurdish YPG militia in Syria and many Germans are demanding an immediate explanation.
German tanks are meant to be admired and purchased, of course, but no one here ever expected that anybody in the real world would ever actually want to use the damned things. The German army certainly never would. Or could, I should say (most of them are broken).

On the one hand, nobody has any problem refusing to let Turkish ministers hold pro-government rallies here, but when the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) organizes a demonstration with 30,000 protestors carrying their banned party symbols, that ain’t no big deal, either.

The American intervention and overthrow of Saddam Hussein ten years ago, so the reasoning goes, ruined the “togetherness” that had predominated under the peoples and religions down there up until then. While their fearless leader was still around to take care of things like togetherness and stuff like that, I mean. Whatever.
But not to worry, folks. Six (that’s the number between five and seven) German soldiers have now been sent to the area to calm things down and clean things up.
Personally, I think that this guy needs to extend his vacation another month. He’s obviously stressed out and can’t see very clearly at the moment. Not only do Germans get terribly stressed out just watching TV (while on vacation or otherwise), a new study also indicates that the enormous stressGermans are generally under can lead to vision impairment, too.
