More debt is the answer!

Right? It’s always the answer. Just look at US-Amerika.

We should be commending the Germans for not going down that deadly road, not smirking at them.

Schadenfreude reigns as Berlin pays the price of its tough line on debt – “It’s karma, no?” said one European official.

Germany has long been the European Union’s penny pincher par excellence — a paragon of fiscal rectitude in contrast to its spendthrift neighbors. But now its insistence on balancing the books is coming back to bite it.

I would have gone with “Talahon”

But I’m not a young German.

The race was extremely close: “Aura” is the German youth word of the year 2024, with a wafer-thin lead over “Talahon” and a new interpretation of “scissors.”

Talahon: An adherent of an urban subculture of males aged between about 13 and 25, typically but not necessarily of Middle Eastern origin, characterized, among other things, by a passion for German hip hop and wearing counterfeit designer labels.

“The crux of the biscuit…

is the apostrophe.”

They’re not used in German to show possession. Until now. Sort of.

Germans decry influence of English as ‘idiot’s apostrophe’ gets official approval – Linguistic body has relaxed rules on use of apostrophe to show possession, not traditionally correct in German.

Once upon a time
Somebody say to me
(This is a dog talkin’ now)
What is your Conceptual Continuity?
Well, I told him right then (Fido said)
It should be easy to see
The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe…

Z.

Volodymyr Z.

My explosions? Shaken, not stirred.

Nord Stream sabotage: Germany issues arrest warrant — report. A Ukrainian national who was living in Poland is the subject of a German arrest warrant, according to media reports. The Russian-European gas pipelines were attacked in September 2022…

In an investigation published Wednesday, the outlets reported that the suspect is a Ukrainian national, named only as Volodymyr Z. for privacy reasons.

It is alleged he attacked the pipelines in tandem with at least two others, who are also believed to be Ukrainian citizens.

It starts with “beef”

And ends up someplace later with “law.”

But the law is the law. And the German language is the German language.

Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz. Let’s give it a try: Beef labelling supervision and duties assignment law.

‘Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungs-aufgabenübertragungsgesetz’: how viral tongue-twisters lightened up German language…

Now German, the primary vernacular of about 100 million Europeans, is turning its prickly peculiarities into an asset with an embrace of Zungenbrecher (literally, tongue-breakers) that have touched off a global comeback of the wordplay, even among people who do not speak the language.

None of the experts can figure out why…

It’s inexplicable. Why on earth would Europeans by voting for the right?

Something seems to bothering the electorate that we professionals in power have not been able to understand. Oh well. I suppose it’s one of those mysteries we will never be able to solve…

In Germany, the EU’s most populous nation, projections indicated that voters had not been dissuaded by the AfD’s scandals as it rose to 16.5%, up from 11% in 2019. In comparison, the combined result for the three parties in the German governing coalition barely topped 30%.

German of the day: Reich

That means rich.

And Donald Trump apparently wants to “unify the rich” to help move our country down the right path. I mean up the right path, of course (Biden & Co. are responsible for the down part). And if anybody knows about rich, its Donald Trump.

Trump’s social media account shares a campaign video with a headline about a ‘unified Reich’ – A video posted to Donald Trump’s account on his social media network included references to a “unified Reich” among hypothetical news headlines if he wins the election in November.

I don’t think Indian students deserve this

They didn’t do anything wrong.

Why can’t we just learn to live in peace?

Germany targets Indian students to address labor shortages – Germany looks to tap into international student talent to keep its engineering and IT sectors afloat.

Germany is grappling with a critical labor shortage and aging population, with projections indicating a deficit of seven million skilled workers by 2035.

With some 700,000 vacancies currently unfilled, Germany’s economic growth potential has dropped to about 0.7% now from around 2% in the 1980s, and is set to fall further to 0.5% if the country fails to resolve this problem, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has said, stressing the importance of migration in bridging this widening gap.

Engaging Germany’s Indian student population in the workforce may be part of the solution.

But in social media it says that the Palestinians are starving

So it must be true.

Enjoying a nice day at the beach doesn’t mean you’re not starving, after all. Right?

‘We’re not like the Nazis’: Netanyahu said to chide German FM on Gaza ‘famine’ remark – heated exchange reportedly occurs after Annalena Baerbock charges Israel pushing Gaza toward starvation; Germany complains about ‘distorted’ leaks

“Come and see the pictures of the markets in Gaza, the beaches in Gaza, there’s no famine there.”

Germany now greener than Green

I guess you could call this the high-water mark of Greenness.

Germany becomes the biggest EU country to legalise recreational cannabis – Germany on Monday became the biggest EU country to legalise recreational cannabis, despite fierce objections from opposition politicians and medical associations.

“From our point of view, the law as it is written is a disaster,” Katja Seidel, a therapist at a cannabis addiction centre for young people in Berlin, told AFP.
