Is This The Shot In The Foot?

The German Greens are notorious for this. Whenever they are doing well in the polls, which is the case at the moment, they say something so revealing, that is, so ridiculous about their policies, that they single-handedly manage to turn this trend around.

This time the shot may have come from Robert Habeck, the Green boy boss who was edged out of the running as head honcho by the Green girl boss Annalena Baerbock. How much he resents this we’ll probably never know but in a talk show last night the possibility of raising the price of gasoline as high as 60 euros per liter (per liter, not gallon) was addressed. You know, to make the world a greener place and save humanity and all that? Under her leadership, of course.

I’m not sure but I can’t imagine even the greenest of German Green going along with that one. Unless they’re really green behind the ears.

„Der klimawirksame Gewinn ist nicht so besonders hoch. Das muss man einfach zugeben. Es ist eher ein Beispiel dafür, was man alles machen kann, was niemandem wirklich weh tut. Die ökonomische Frage, wie teuer Fliegen wird, ist davon zu trennen.“

He’s Not A Racist

And everybody here knows it. His problem is that he’s not a Green. He says reasonable, grown-up, real-world things all day long.

That’s why he is “controversial.” That’s why the Greens have to kick him out. It’s like the SPD all over again with their heretic, Thilo Sarrazin. If you don’t follow the party line you’re history. Die Partei hat immer recht. The party is always right, especially when it’s left.

Germany: Greens to oust Tübingen mayor over racist comments – Members of the environmentalist Greens party have overwhelmingly voted to remove Boris Palmer from their ranks. The mayor had used a racial slur against soccer player Dennis Aogo.

German Greens Decide It’s Time To Finally Have A Woman As Chancellor

They’re progressive or something.

And she won’t remove that mask until she gets elected. It heightens the suspense, I’m told.

For the first time in their party’s four-decade history, the German Greens have announced a candidate to run as chancellor.

Equally historic is the central role the Greens will play in September’s general election.

On Monday, the Green Party announced that 40-year-old Annalena Baerbock would be its choice to take over from Angela Merkel after September’s election.

German Of The Day: Den Himmel Auf Erden Haben

That means “having Heaven on Earth” and that’s an idiom that could only come from Germany.

They’ve tried at least two forms of German socialism creating Heaven on Earth already that I know of. They failed miserably at both, of course. But at least they tried, people.

‘Heaven on earth’ and other German expressions – The pandemic has been dominating headlines over the year, but our planet is also begging for attention. To honor Earth Day, here are a few “down-to-earth” idioms from the German language.

We’re From Berlin’s “Red-Redder-Green” City Government And We’re Here To Help

And now you have to pay back the rest of the rent you didn’t have to pay this past year or so, sorry about out that.

Our unconstitutional rent control plan was bat shit crazy from the start but at least we meant well, and that’s the main thing.

Angry Berlin renters protest court ruling – A decision by Germany’s constitutional court has sparked fears among renters that they could now be hit with sudden rent increases.

We’re From The Berlin City Government

The “red-red-green” city government. And we’re here to help.

Control

A disaster foretold – After a year, Berlin’s experiment with rent control is a failure. Rents may be down, but so is the supply of homes.

”I WORRY ABOUT Berlin,” says Rolf Buch, a born and bred Rhinelander. The chief executive of Vonovia, Europe’s biggest residential-property firm, thinks that the city’s policy of capping rents has achieved very little good, but caused severe collateral damage. Even if the federal Constitutional Court declares the rent cap unconstitutional in the next few months, as many expect it to do, Berlin will not go back to the status quo ante. Protests are here to stay, Mr Buch reckons.

We’re From Your Leftist Government

And we’re here to help.

Mieten

As usual, everything Berlin’s “red-red-green” city government touches turns to Scheiße. As usual, the media clones pretends that this is somehow news.

Berlin’s Rent Controls Are Proving to Be a Disaster – A year ago, the leftist government of Germany’s capital region imposed central planning on the city’s housing market. That was a bad move.

A year ago, a rent cap took effect in the city that was unprecedented in Germany. For all apartments built before 2014, rents were frozen at whatever they were on Jun. 18, 2019. Tenants in those units can also force landlords to lower rents defined as “excessive…”

These data confirm what economists had warned about — and what’s been observed in other cities that dabbled in rent controls, such as San Francisco or Cambridge, Massachusetts. The caps represent a windfall to one group of tenants: those, whether rich or poor, who are already ensconced in regulated apartments. Simultaneously, they hurt all other groups — especially young people and those coming from other cities — by all but shutting them out of the market.

The Rest Of The World Isn’t Cooperating

That’s because the rest of the world is the real world, Germany.

Nuclear

You’ll get used to it eventually. You’ll have to.

Germany concerned about Poland’s nuclear energy plans – The Polish government wants to start producing nuclear energy in 2033 and has agreed to deals with the US and France. But Germany is increasingly alarmed by its neighbor’s energy plans.

Nuclear reactors are considered by many to be the perfect solution.

What Do You Need A House For?

Especially since I’ve already got mine. Several, most likely. No need to research that claim we all know it’s true.

Green

A ban on building new single-family houses in popular urban areas has been mooted by a leading German Green MP, who has said they are environmentally unfriendly because they use too much space and energy.

“Single-family homes consume a large surface area, a lot of construction material and energy and they lead to urban sprawl and therefore generate more traffic,” he told Der Spiegel magazine in an interview.

“The Greens have once again surpassed themselves with this populist and sanctimonious attitude.”

First Come The Wooden Skyscrapers

Wood

Then come the wooden cars.

Car

German Greenery marches on.

A skyscraper that would be Europe’s tallest wooden building promises a “social and ecological paradigm shift” in a gentrifying neighborhood — and a test for the city’s affordable housing model.

The 322 foot (98 meter) tower, whose construction was confirmed on Jan. 29 by sustainable developer UTB, the state of Berlin and the borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg the will be made largely of wood…

Such a forward-looking approach aligns with the term that often accompanies green building projects in Germany — zukunftsfähig, which means both sustainable and “future-oriented.”
