Just kidding. That was the German of yesterday. No more “gender star” for you!

It’s Patientin. As in female patient. Maybe it’s even the patient, female or otherwise, who thought up the gender star and all this other nonsense too.

“Expansion” is a scary word. It sounds too much like growth, increase, prosperity, success. We vote no! Because you can never know, unless it’s no.

German of the day: Shmues un Vayn

Just kidding. That’s Yiddish.

And that means schmusen und Wein in German. Almost. Schmusen in German means to cuddle. Shmues, however, although taken from schmusen, means schmooze, as in gossip or conversation.

So, German of the day Shmues un Vayn, which is actually Yiddish, means getting together for wine and conversation. I think. Now was that so hard?

You can now hear people speaking Yiddish in bars all over Berlin – A Yiddish conversation group meets biweekly at locations around the city. Other people think they’re speaking Swiss German.

Germany: Irregular migration drops due to new border checks – Police have registered a 40% fall in unauthorized entries at Germany’s borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland since new controls were introduced last month, according to a newspaper report.

The introduction of border checks at Germany’s border with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland last month has led to a significant drop in illegal migration, a German newspaper reported Saturday.

Welt am Sonntag newspaper looked at federal police data which showed that there were fewer than 300 unauthorized border entries per day since October 16.

That compares with around 700 per day in the 30-day period before the controls were introduced.

And they said it couldn’t be done.

Elon Musk gets into German debate over migration.

Billionaire Elon Musk waded into German politics on Friday, sharing the post of another account on his social media platform X that attacked the government’s handling of illegal migration and backed the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).

The post shared by Musk came from an account identified as Radio Genoa. It criticized the German state for funding charities rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean and included videos of rescue missions. “Let’s hope the AfD wins the elections to stop this European suicide”, it read.

Critics of the charities accuse them of encouraging people to make the dangerous crossing — something they deny.

Germany’s Bild tabloid, the biggest-selling newspaper in Europe, is to replace a range of editorial jobs with artificial intelligence as part of a €100m costcutting programme expected to lead to hundreds of redundancies.

The newspaper would “unfortunately be parting ways with colleagues who have tasks that in the digital world are performed by AI and/or automated processes”, its owner, Europe’s largest media publisher, Axel Springer SE, said in an email to staff.
