Explainer: Could Germany keep its nuclear plants running?

Of the 17 nuclear power plants Germany had at the time, only three remain in operation now: Isar 2, Emsland and Neckarwestheim 2, which are operated by German energy firms E.ON (EONGn.DE), RWE (RWEG.DE) and EnBW (EBKG.DE), respectively.

Under current plans, the plants, with combined capacity of 4,200 gigawatts (GW), will be shut down by the end of 2022.

You know, kind of like ex-chancellor Gerhard Schroeder (SPD) being Gazprom’s top lobbyist?

Ain’t no big deal. The Greens are from the government and here to help, after all. They’re perfectly willing to turn a blind left eye to any conflict of interest or other ethical concerns in order to “save the planet.” The ends justify the means.

Germany’s foreign minister is facing domestic criticism over her surprise decision to recruit the head of Greenpeace as an international environmental envoy, including accusations she bent the rules to create the post and had obscured the divide between governing and lobbying…

She will reportedly receive a salary in line with that earned by bureaucrats of a similar rank, of almost €15,000 a month.

Morgan will have to also undergo a security check by Germany’s intelligence services, with some critics suggesting it may be difficult for her to distance herself from Greenpeace protest initiatives where its activists have clashed with the law.

That means Freedom Day. And they’re celebrating Freedom Day – in Sweden.

Remember Sweden? The country that never had any COVID19 lockdowns or suffered from accute mask or vaccination psychosis? You know, the country that was never in the news? Of course you don’t remember Sweden. You’re not supposed to.

Report: German Police See Surge in Fake Vaccine Certificates – German news agency dpa has reported that police are investigating thousands of cases of suspected forgery of coronavirus vaccine certificates.

Germany’s parliament is expected to begin debating a universal vaccine mandate in the coming months, though government officials acknowledge the measure is unlikely to take effect for several months.

Almost 73% of the German population have received a full course of vaccines against COVID-19, while nearly 48 % have had an additional booster shot.

Green Germans Can’t Enlighten The French

Thank goodness. They remain determined to not only keep using nuclear energy, but to ramp up their program.

The French, for their part, haven’t been able to make clear to the Germans a startling discovery they made a few years ago: Nuclear power is reliable because it produces day and night. The German renewables, well, aren’t, don’t and never will.

France ramps up nuclear power as Germany closes plants in the name of clean energy.

Chancellor Angela Merkel soon caved to public pressure and announced Germany would phase out all nuclear power within 10 years. Her government kept that promise. Germany’s new chancellor, Olaf Scholz, wants to speed up the phase-out of coal and eventually natural gas. He promises that by the end of this decade, 80% of Germany’s energy will be from renewables. And he doesn’t include nuclear in that category.

Although scrambling now to change the numbers…

Germany’s Robert Koch Institute issued statistics on December 30 indicating that 96% of the latest Omicron patients were fully vaccinated, with only 4% unvaccinated.

Thank goodness the tweaking has really paid off for them. Sort of. Now they say: “It would seem the percentage of omicron cases among unvaccinated people accounted for 21%, not 4%.”

Now only 79% of the latest omicron patients were fully vaccinated. What a relief.
