Germans question value of working after new welfare increases, survey shows – More than half of Germans believe work is not worthwhile after the government’s planned increase in welfare payments and child benefits, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The government said it was raising benefits, first introduced in 2005, to fight child poverty and help citizens cope with inflation, but added it did not want to deter people from work altogether.

Welfare payments, dubbed “citizens’ money”, for more than 5.5 million jobless in Germany will rise to 563 euros ($605.06)from 502 euros per month for single people from next year.

PS: What you may not be aware of is that those who receive welfare payments in Germany also get their rent, healthcare and other entitlements paid for in addition.

Are the Germans planning on ditching Mallorca? New Baltic resort dubbed “German Mallorca” being built.

According to the Hamburger Morgen Post newspaper in two years, by the summer of 2025, Germans will able to stay at home will be able stay at home and enjoy a good vacation in the new tourism complex that is being built in Grömitz, a town located in northern Germany on the Baltic coast.

German real estate tycoon’s dismembered body found in freezer at Thai rental home.

The body of a German real estate tycoon who disappeared last week was found dismembered and stuffed inside a freezer in a rental home in Thailand, according to local reports.

Expat Hans Peter Mack, 62, had been missing since July 4 when his 24-year-old Thai wife said he failed to come home from a business meeting.

I bet it was the pigtail that set them off…

At least 22 officers injured in the German town of Giessen following unrest – police.

At least 22 police officers were injured Saturday in unrest in the western German town of Giessen during an Eritrean cultural festival, according to local police.

Police in the German state of Hessen said there were “massive attacks” against their officers early Saturday morning, with demonstrators “throwing stones and bottles and setting off smoke bombs” and attempting “to break through police barriers” into the event site.

Auf Wiedersehen Brit! Drunk Germans take the title of WORST tourists from boozy British holidaymakers in Majorca – Drunken German troublemaker tourists have taken over the mantle from boozy Brits in Majorca’s popular holiday resorts.

English holidaymakers have always been branded the worst offenders in the town of Magaluf.

But now the small village of Arenal on the opposite side of the Bay of Palama has become a mecca for young German hooligans, who are taking advantage of low-cost flights to take 24 hour or 48 hour breaks dedicated to getting drunk and taking drugs.

German Economy Shrinks Faster Than Expected – It’s a rare thing to happen, but Germany now looks like the sick man of Europe, a phrase previously often used to describe Britain.

The health of the business sector dropped significantly in June, according to recent data. The Ifo Business Climate index for Germany, which measures the health of the commercial sector, registered 88.5 in June, down from 91.5 in May. Higher numbers show economic strength, whereas lower ones show a weakening of the economy.

We Germans Don’t Have Babies Anymore

And now we don’t have workers anymore (some speculate there may be a connection here).

But we’ve passed another way cool law. Now the unskilled migrants who came here illegally can stay. Unfortunately, the skilled migrants we would now like to have aren’t interested in coming to Germany because of our taxation bureaucracy, etc. A well-functioning system, don’t you think? Or have we forgotten to fix anything else? No need to thank us. We’re from the government and we’re here to help.
