German Greens Red With Green Rage

Because the rest of Europe seems prepared to finally get rid of some out-dated Green ideological ballast. Time to bury an unshakeable, near-religious conviction that never had a place in the real world in the first place.

EU drafts plan to label gas and nuclear investments as green – The European Union has drawn up plans to label some natural gas and nuclear energy projects as “green” investments after a year-long battle between governments over which investments are truly climate-friendly.

The European Commission is expected to propose rules in January deciding whether gas and nuclear projects will be included in the EU “sustainable finance taxonomy”.

This is a list of economic activities and the environmental criteria they must meet to be labelled as green investments.

By restricting the “green” label to truly climate-friendly projects, the system aims to make those investments more attractive to private capital, and stop “greenwashing”, where companies or investors overstate their eco-friendly credentials.

Germany Erupts in Protests Over COVID Mandates, Police Officers Injured in Riots – The protests come as the German government implemented new restrictions this month to deal with the Omicron variant, which is believed to be more transmissible than other variants.

Earlier in December, Germany announced limits on private gatherings that were to begin Tuesday. The restriction is intended to limit the number of people holding large gatherings on New Year’s Eve. A maximum of 10 vaccinated people are allowed to attend a private gathering. If someone who is unvaccinated attends, only one other household can go to the gathering.

German lawmakers have approved a law mandating that medical staff be vaccinated, according to the broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

“Now is not the time for parties in large groups.”

German arms exports hit new record during Merkel’s last days – The former government approved almost €5 billion in warships and missile defense deals as it prepared to leave office. New Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was then finance minister, has also received criticism.

Germany’s weapons exports reached a record level this year, thanks to the last-minute approval of deals worth nearly €5 billion ($5.6 billion) by then-Chancellor Angela Merkel’s administration.

Man dressed as Santa Claus arrested at COVID protest – Police arrested a man dressed as Santa Claus at the Stralsund Christmas market, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on Monday. He was apparently taking part in an unregistered demonstration against coronavirus restrictions in Germany.

In a video of the arrest – which has since gone viral on social media – the man can be seen wearing the classic trappings of the world’s favourite yuletide visitor, along with a more unusual accessory: a sign that reads “2G – without me”. Together with approximately 65 other people, he was protesting against restrictions and the possibility of vaccines against coronavirus becoming compulsory for the wider public.
