German prosecutors raid home of pro-Kremlin activists – German prosecutors said on Monday they searched the home of two pro-Kremlin activists under suspicion that they violated a law that regulates the production and transfer of war weapons.

The activists – Max Schlund and his romantic partner Elena Kolbasnikova – have organised multiple rallies protesting Germany’s support of Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion last year.

Reuters reported in January that Schlund and Kolbasnikova donated funds collected from supporters in Germany to a Russian army division fighting in Ukraine, and the money was used to purchase walkie-talkie radios, headphones and telephones.

German prosecutors searched the couple’s home in March as they looked for evidence to corroborate Reuters’ reporting.

Ulf Willuhn, a representative of the Cologne public prosecutors, confirmed on Monday the raid was conducted over suspicions of a violation of the War Weapons Control Act, but denied it was connected to their aid for Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

Nearly two-thirds of Germans want new government, poll says – A survey shows nearly two-thirds of voters want to pull the plug on Germany’s ruling coalition. The poll comes immediately after figures that show most Germans are unhappy with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his government.

As many as 64% of Germans who answered in the survey released on Saturday said a change of government would make the country a better place…

Pollsters also asked about the so-called “traffic light” coalition of center-left Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens, and the neoliberal Free Democrats (FDP). Voters were asked how it measured up against Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “Grand Coalition” of conservative Christian Democrats/Christian Socialists (CDU/CSU) and the SPD.

Germany is becoming expert at defeating itself – Bureaucracy and strategic blunders are starting to pile up.

In “the twelve tasks of asterix”, an animated film from 1976, one of the feats the diminutive Gaul must perform is to secure a government permit. Swimming World Cup 2023: Transgender swimmers to compete in new open category in Berlin – World Aquatics will debut a new open category for transgender athletes at this year’s Swimming World Cup event in Berlin.

Last year, the world governing body voted to stop transgender athletes from competing in women’s elite races.

The open category will feature 50m and 100m races across all strokes.

“Berlin is Germany’s hub for diversity and inclusion and therefore the perfect location for such a progressive project.”

‘More than annoying’: German minister cancels Pacific trip after plane mishap – German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was forced Tuesday to call off a foreign policy trip to the Pacific region after two failed attempts to fly from the United Arab Emirates to Australia on a government aircraft.

The canceled visit is just the latest in a string of trips by German officials to be affected by problems with aging government planes. Some experts have ascribed the problems to the policy of buying used aircraft to economize.

You know. Natural stuff like that? Ah, nature is so Green (and sometimes red). And Germany is so Green it hurts.

Wolves, once confined to fairy tales, are back in Germany, stirring debate – “It took me a moment to realize what was coming out of the forest,” said the 37-year shepherdess, recounting one eventful day last summer in northwest Germany.

She was grazing her herd in a tree-lined field when she saw the wolf pounce.

“Aiiieee,” she screamed, recording with her phone as she launched herself toward the shaggy, slinking figure that had locked on to one of her ewes.

Germany pursues a responsible policy in providing military aid to Ukraine and ensures that the war remains the one between Ukraine and Russia. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this on Thursday as he spoke with residents of Erfurt, Thuringia, Ukrinform reports.

“With all the decisions we make, we prevent escalation, the war between Russia and NATO; we make sure that the war remains the one between Russia and Ukraine. But we support Ukraine, which is defending itself,” said Scholz.

Now it’s much too wet, wet, wet! All it does is rain in Germany these days. But don’t worry, because you’re still allowed to worry. Ask any climate activist. In both cases “the Climate Crisis” is to blame. It’s science. I mean, pseudoscience.

Rhine river levels in Germany back to normal after rain – Heavy rain has raised water on the river Rhine in Germany to levels allowing cargo vessels to sail fully loaded, data from German inland waterways agency WSA said on Wednesday.

Data from the WSA’s website Pegelonline showed that the last shallow sectors of the river around Cologne had now reached levels generally permitting full vessel loads.

Dry weather in June meant the river became too shallow for vessels to sail fully loaded and ship operators imposed surcharges on freight rates to compensate for vessels sailing partly empty, increasing costs for cargo owners.

And who is shifting them there?

The “Nazi” name-calling strategy doesn’t seem to be working anymore (see the photo – get it?), all ye established, fat and sassy German political parties and media manipulators.

You might have to finally consider giving the German electorate what it actually wants. An end to mass illegal immigration, for example, or affordable energy. To name just two.

AfD: German voters shift toward far right – The AfD continues to gain ground in opinion polls amid high dissatisfaction with the government. Support for ending the taboo on cooperating with the populists is growing.

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has received another boost in the polls: If federal elections were held this week, the populist party would win 21% of the vote, putting it firmly in second place behind the center-right bloc of Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), which remain the strongest force at 27%, despite taking some small losses.

That is according to the latest edition of the representative “Deutschlandtrend” survey, for which pollster infratest reached out to 1,297 eligible voters via phone or email between July 31 and August 2.

As in the previous months’ surveys, Germany’s center-left government again failed to win a majority. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), the largest party in the three-way coalition, would garner 17% — down from 25.7% when it came to power in the last general election in 2021.
