German Of The Day: Sündenbock

That means scapegoat.

Was she lame? Of course she was. But that’s the German Defense Minister’s job, to be lame. Look at the woman currently running the EU who was infinitely worse and fired “upstairs” (not elected, by the way). German defense ministers are, after all, pretend defense ministers. They are pretend defense ministers for an alibi army. No one in Germany expects the Bundeswehr to ever be anything other than that. They wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s all just a big show to justify having such a profitable weapons industry. Nobody living outside of Germany seems to get this.

Christine Lambrecht: German defence minister resigns after blunders – Germany’s Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht has resigned following a series of blunders and PR disasters.

It comes as Berlin comes under rising pressure to allow the delivery of German-built battle tanks to Ukraine.

German Of The Day: Abschmieren

That means to slide or to crash.

Deutschland schmiert wirtschaftlich ab – Germany is sliding down the economic slope.

Economically, Germany can no longer keep up with the USA, Scandinavia and Western Europe.

According to a study by the “Stiftung Familienunternehmen” (Family Business Foundation), Germany is slipping dramatically in terms of competitiveness: among 21 industrialized nations, Germany now ranks only 18th!

Greta Thunberg Removed From German Performance Art Happening

Like, physically. Is that even allowed?

I mean, is it legal to, you know, touch her? And where did they remove her to? I sure hope it’s an institution that will finally be able to give her the help she so desperately needs. Then we can move on to helping her followers.

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was removed Sunday by police along with other protesters as they demonstrated against the razing of the German village of Lützerath for the expansion of a coal mine.

Thunberg did not comply with a police request to leave the area, prompting officers to physically escort her away, German media outlet Bild reported. Thunberg was among a group of activists still at the site on Sunday, the newspaper said.

How Stunning And Brave

And hilarious and ridiculous. Absurd, too.

And really, really, dumb. That the media could think anybody is interested in this nonsense anymore, I mean. German catastrophist activists have been performing this dopey performance art ritual since the 80s, at least.

Climate activists ‘prepared to risk lives’ to stop German coalmine – Hundreds of protesters prepare to defy police at abandoned village of Lützerath in North Rhine Westphalia.

Could, Might, Should…

But they won’t.

That the SPD even uses the word “could” says it all.

Germany’s ties with China chould change fundamentally – SPD leader.

Germany would be forced to cut ties with China in the way it has with Russia should China attack Taiwan, the leader of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats (SPD) told the weekly Die Zeit in comments published on Wednesday.

Berlin Kaputt?

Like duh. Always has been. Otherwise they wouldn’t call it Berlin.

The street violence in Berlin on New Year’s Eve has triggered a debate on law and order ahead of regional elections in several states, including Berlin. Bavaria’s center-right Premier, Markus Söder from the Christian Social Union (CSU), lashed out at the center-left government in Berlin claiming it could “neither organize elections nor guarantee the safety of its citizens”.

Soaring Interest Rates, Weakening Economy, Record Inflation…

What’s not to like?

Oh, yeah. Commercial real estate is taking a dive now too.

German Real Estate Deals Plunged 50% in Fourth Quarter, BNP Says

Germany’s real estate market took a deep hit in the fourth quarter as investors shied away from deals on the back of soaring financing costs.

Total investments in the country’s commercial property sector only reached €9.9 billion ($10.6 billion) in the last three months of 2022, a decline of 50% compared with the five-year average for the period, according to a report released by BNP Paribas’ real estate unit on Monday. The development is largely due to soaring interest rates, a weakening economy and record inflation, it said.

German Of The Day: Giftanschlag

That means poison attack.

Iranian man held in Germany over suspected chemical attack – A 32-year-old Iranian man has been arrested in Germany for allegedly plotting an “Islamist-motivated” attack.

The man had been plotting to use cyanide and ricin to commit a “serious act of violence.”

Expert At Losing Bets Waxes Poetic On Gambling

If the Germans don’t know about losing energy bets, nobody does. Old Vlad better listen up.

Putin has gambled away gas leverage, says German vice-chancellor – Robert Habeck says ‘half of our eggs were in the basket of Putin’ but Germany is now recovering capacity.

Vladimir Putin has gambled away his gas leverage over Europe, Germany’s vice-chancellor has claimed as he sounded a note of cautious optimism over his country’s energy supplies during a visit to Norway.
