Syrian man charged with attempted murder in Berlin Holocaust Memorial stabbing – Germany’s top prosecutor has filed charges against a Syrian man in connection with a stabbing attack at Berlin’s Holocaust Memorial in February that seriously wounded a Spanish tourist.

The suspect sought to use the alleged crime to join the militant Islamic State group, the federal prosecutor said. The charges were filed July 18 and announced Tuesday.

The man, who was only identified as Wassim Al M. in line with German privacy rules, allegedly sent a photo of himself to members of the group before the stabbing to give the militants the opportunity to claim responsibility for the crime, authorities said.

Shoplifting cost the German retail sector nearly €3 billion in 2024, a new record that was partially driven by organised crime. The federal government is also missing out on millions of euros in tax revenue.

German retailers noticed a gaping hole of missing merchandise worth €4.95bn when they completed their inventories in 2024. That’s according to a new publication by the country’s EHI Retail Institute, based on a survey they carry out each year.

German court sentences Syrian doctor to life in jail for crimes against humanity – Alaa Mousa accused of torturing detainees at military hospitals during Syrian civil war under former ruler Bashar al-Assad…

Mousa has lived in Germany for 10 years. He worked in various clinics over five years as an orthopaedic medic, most recently at a hospital in Bad Wildungen in the state of Hessen, in western Germany, until his arrest in summer 2020. He was recognised and reported to the authorities after some of his victims saw him in a TV documentary about the Syrian city of Homs and was placed in custody. The court case against him at Frankfurt’s higher regional court started in January 2022 and took place over nearly 190 days.

German politician is ‘attacked by a coven of carnival witches who beat him up and broke his ribs’ – German authorities have launched an investigation after a group of carnival witches were accused of beating up a local politican.

Alexander Kebeck, who is a mayoral candidate for the southern German town of Loßburg, claims he was left with broken ribs after an unprovoked assault in the Black Forest region.

The 43-year-old had been attending a local carnival in the area and was making his way home when he encountered the coven of ‘witches’.

Speaking with German tabloid Bild, Mr Kebeck claimed that the group of six witches ‘jumped from behind and hit me in the back, brutally knocking me to the ground’.

The German government has deported 28 Afghan criminals to their home country. This was confirmed by the Saxon Ministry of the Interior. Spiegel” had previously reported on this. According to the report, a charter flight took off from Leipzig to Kabul at 6.56 a.m. on Friday morning.

The Afghans had been brought together from various federal states. The deportation was organized by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, with the support of the Chancellery. According to the report, each of the deportees received 1000 euros in hand money, according to the authorities. A doctor accompanied the flight.

Sheesh. The next thing you know they’ll be restricting clubs, spears and stone axes.

Germany getting tough on knife crime – German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser wants to further restrict the carrying of knives in public, to combat a perceived rise in knife crime. But some have criticized the plan as impractical.

The German government has promised tougher knife laws after the police reported a rise in the number of stabbings, especially near train stations — though the statistics remain controversial.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has called for the law to be changed so that only blades of 6 centimeters (2.36 inches) would be allowed to be carried in public, rather than the current 12 centimeters. An exception would be made for household knives in their original packaging. Switchblades would be banned altogether.
