German mayor takes ‘time out’ after using racist slur – The mayor of Germany’s southwestern city of Tuebingen said Monday that he’s taking some “time out” after coming under fire over the weekend for using a racist slur.

Boris Palmer also said he’ll resign from the Green party following criticism over his repeated use of a racist term for Black people at a conference Friday, which prompted some attendees to walk out in protest.

May demonstration in Berlin: police report riots. “Bottles and pyros” thrown – At least one stone was thrown at police during a demonstration in Berlin on the eve of May 1 with around 3,300 participants. One woman was arrested.

On the night of May 1, demonstrators attacked police officers in Berlin-Kreuzberg. During a left-wing queer-feminist demonstration on Sunday evening, participants threw bottles and firecrackers at the police.

I mean, planet. To save the planet, of course.

Most Germans ready to make sacrifices for planet — survey – Germans said they were prepared to cut their heat use and fly less to help tackle climate change. But most are reluctant to give up meat and their cars, according to a YouGov poll.

Two-thirds of Germans are willing to make a personal sacrifice to protect the planet against climate change, a new survey published Sunday suggested.

The YouGov survey on behalf of Welt am Sonntag newspaper also found 43% were willing to fly less often, while 40% were prepared to use less heat.

The participants, however, said they were reluctant to accept curbs on what they could eat. Less than a third (27%) said they were prepared to change their diet.

Germany’s foreign minister: Parts of China trip ‘more than shocking’ – German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Wednesday described parts of her recent trip to China as “more than shocking” and said Beijing was increasingly becoming a systemic rival more than a trade partner and competitor.

The blunt remarks followed Baerbock’s visit to Beijing last week where she warned that any attempt by China to control Taiwan would be unacceptable.

Germans Are Getting Mugged by Reality of Green Energy (the last German nuclear reactors are being shut down tomorrow).

The annual Warmmiete [warm rent] that I pay, which covers rent, heating, and hot water, is now 20% higher, not including the additional costs I have to pay at the end of the year. There are some people using only natural gas as a heating source who are paying 55% more.”
