It’s Magic

Wow. The refugees have suddenly stopped coming to Germany. Just like that.

Refugees

All it took, the German government (and government media) tell us today, was Angela Merkel’s strong leadership and the EU’s agreement with Turkey to return migrants who cross the Aegean Sea to Europe illegally. Well…

Most experts, however, say the deal with Turkey, the main plank of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plan to reduce refugee flows to Europe, had nothing to do with the fall in numbers since it has only been implemented for a few days. Rather, they say the decrease is mainly due to the closure of national borders by countries on the migrants’ Balkan route, a policy Ms. Merkel has vehemently opposed.

That’s right. This is the same German government (and government media) that said that putting stringent border controls in place wouldn’t and couldn’t solve the problem. So I guess, well, uh… Go ahead. You do the math.

Once again: Thanks, Austria. Sometimes – even in ze Europe – just making things happen is the best way to go.

Flüchtlinge: Zahlen sinken drastisch

The Best Of Both Worlds

It’s a win-win situation for Germany again.

Austria

Austria solves the Germans’ refugee problem but they can still bitch and moan about how awful Austria is for having put up the mean and nasty border fence that did the solving. Once you’ve climbed the moral high ground you never come down, I guess.

Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Macedonia have all brought in no-nonsense measures over the last few months which have sealed up the Balkans route and dissuaded tens of thousands of migrants from making the journey north from Greece.

Astonishingly, beleaguered Mrs Merkel has persistently railed against the reintroduction of border controls, even though they may end up saving her career as Germany’s leader.

Die Alleingänge müssen enden.

Too Far?

To the right?

AfD

If you say “the immigration of Muslims will change our culture” these days, then I guess you are. That’s radical right-wing or something.

I’m not against immigration, but why do you think the respect for other opinions makes immigration a necessity? For decades, there has been a lack of an ideology-free debate on this issue. Yet such a debate is imperative because the economic and social consequences on both home and host countries are equally momentous, as Oxford economist Paul Collier described in his book “Exodus.” One thing is clear: The immigration of so many Muslims will change our culture. If this change is desired, it must be the product of a democratic decision supported by a broad majority. But Ms. Merkel simply opened the borders and invited everybody in, without consulting the parliament or the people.

Meanwhile… The Islamic State is urging attacks on the German chancellery. Damn. If they were ever to form a political party here in Germany they could really pose a threat to the AfD. You know, stealing voters and stuff?

Islamic State posted pictures on the Internet calling on German Muslims to carry out Brussels-style attacks in Germany, singling out Chancellor Angela Merkel’s offices and the Cologne-Bonn airport as targets, the SITE intelligence group reported.

77 + 13 = Null Ahnung

Null means zero in German. Null Ahnung means “I have no idea” or “I haven’t a clue.”

Gone

So just do the math:

The other day we found out that 77 percent of the migrants who came to Germany in January did so without having any identification papers. Now we learn that 13 percent of all migrants located in Germany just get up and, well, disappear. They get registered with the authorities somewhere when they arrive and then puff! They’re gone.

Ergo… When it comes to migrants in Germany, this 77 + 13 = uhm, wait a second… nearly 100 percent “I have no idea” or “I haven’t a clue” about what the hell is going on here in this country anymore. And something tells me I’m not the only one.

Knapp jeder achte registrierte Flüchtling verschwindet nach seiner behördlichen Erfassung.

Germans Puzzled By Scandinavia’s Innovative New “Identity Checks”

After Sweden moved to introduce so-called “identity checks” for all passengers arriving from Denmark, Denmark, too, has now imposed controls on its southern border with Germany in an attempt to stem the flow of migrants advancing unremittingly from the south.

Denmark

“What do you mean?” asked one baffled and highly underemployed German border authority when told of this. “They like actually demand to see a passport or an ID from every person who wants to enter their country and can even refuse them entry if like, say, they don’t have one? I don’t get it. What would be the point of that?”

“A step in the right direction. Schengen has collapsed. The illusion of external borders has burst. Why does it take such a long time to recognise this?”

Big Honking European Fence Idea Looking Better All The Time

Germany wants Austria to stop dropping off busload after busload of refugees on their common border.

Europe

Austria wants Slovenia to stop letting refugees through to Austria and is considering putting up a fence of its own, just like Hungary already has. Slovenia wants Croatia to stop doing the same, now that Hungary has put up said fence. Serbia and Macedonia are also being really rude in letting all these folks through without kindly asking them to turn around and go back where they came from, as if they would.

Greece, for its part, would really like Turkey to stop letting these refugees boat over across the short stretch from the Turkish coast to Lesbos. Turkey itself would like the over two million refugees it has in its refugee camps to go back to Syria but knows that isn’t going to happen so is letting all additional newcomers just continue on up north, like I said.

So, other than giving humanitarian aid to those who have now made it to Europe, what is there to do? Nobody appears to be interested in stopping the war in Syria – at least nobody in the White House is – so what else is there left to do?

Wir müssen an einer Festung Europa bauen.

Are We Having An Ugly American Border Wall Yet?

Yeah, I know that this question has already been posted before but now it looks like reality has finally caught up with Germany.

Wall

Sorry, I meant it looks like Germany has finally caught up with reality, of course.

Germany’s police union chief has called for a fence to be built along the country’s border to stem the flow of migrants. Rainer Wendt told the “Welt am Sonntag” newspaper that other countries would then follow suit.

In an interview with the Sunday newspaper “Welt am Sonntag,” Wendt insisted that tough measures – like the construction of a fence along the border with Austria – were vital for the country “to carry out serious border controls.”

Deutschland stehe vor sozialen Unruhen, warnte der Gewerkschaftschef. Daher müsse die Notbremse gezogen werden.

PS: Thanks a lot for this link, A.K.:

Germany makes the best fences in the world and sells them everywhere. For instance, it was Munich-based Airbus Defence and Space that designed Saudi Arabia’s €3.4 billion border fence with Iraq, which works perfectly.

So when German mainstream politicians assert that fences don’t work, we should treat them the same way as Soviet economists saying in 1988 that the five-year plan has been gloriously fulfilled. If fences don’t work, why do Germans spend billions a year building and maintaining them all over Germany?

Are We Having An Ugly American Border Wall Yet?

Sooner or later reality gets up in your face.

Germany

Germany has introduced temporary controls on its border with Austria to cope with the influx of migrants, the interior minister has said.

Politically this is a shrewd move by Thomas de Maiziere. His announcement comes just a day before he travels to Brussels to meet other EU interior ministers to discuss the migrant crisis. The measure will help him put pressure on other European countries to do their bit. It highlights just how much Germany is struggling to cope.

The move could also serve as a useful threat; after all, Mr de Maiziere said Germany was controlling the border with Austria “first”, the implication being more could follow. The possibility that Germany might suddenly decide to control its other borders could well help jolt EU partners into action.

German Border Guards To Keep Wolves Out

About 150 years have passed since German hunters eradicated wolves from the nation’s woodlands. But the animal’s threatening aura has persisted through folk tales, including those by German writers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

Wolves

So when wolf packs began reappearing in Germany late in the 20th century, thanks to the efforts of conservationists, the animals faced a public-relations challenge.

Meanwhile… Even though members of the “Night Wolves” may already have visas for Germany, they will be revoked at the border if members of the group, blacklisted in the United States for their participation in Russia’s annexation of Crimea, try to enter.

Nobody Has The Intention Of Building A Wall

Why build just one wall when you can build dozens of them instead?

Walls

Like how un-European is that? This type of shocking and evil thing can only happen in shocking and evil places like US-Amerika or Israel.

Along the frontiers between Spain and Morocco, Greece and Turkey and Hungary and Serbia, the EU is deploying brutal methods to keep out undesired refugees. Many risk everything for a future in Europe and their odysseys too often end in death.

The EU is doing all it can to keep out refugees.

PS: The Germans would be contributing a lot more here but they only have experience with keeping refugees in.
