Germany’s deadly floods were up to 9 times more likely because of climate change, study estimates.

So that means if we can just get the climate to stop changing then the likeliehood of deadly German floods will be nine times less likely than it is at the moment? Well, what the hell are we waiting for? Make it stop changing already. Somebody.

Record rainfall that triggered deadly floods in Western Europe in July was made between 1.2 and 9 times more likely by human-caused climate change, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by 39 scientists and researchers with the World Weather Attribution (WWA) project, also found that the most extreme rain was a once-in-400-year event, and that climate change increased the intensity of daily extreme rainfall by 3% to 19%.

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s would-be successor pledged Saturday to “fight with everything that I can” for victory in Germany’s Sept. 26 election, as the long-time leader’s center-right bloc kicked off its official campaign amid a worrying sag in its poll ratings.

Merkel joined Armin Laschet, a state governor and leader of her Christian Democratic Union party, to appeal to voters to extend the party’s long run in the chancellery. Laschet is running to succeed Merkel after her 16 years in office.

Our Man In Havana

Is now in Berlin. And in China, Russia, Austria, etc.

US officials stationed in Germany developed symptoms of the Havana Syndrome, a mysterious ailment linked to suspected radiation attacks that have stricken hundreds of American spies and diplomats around the world…

The symptoms were first reported in 2016 by US diplomats in Cuba, where the suspected “sonic attacks” changed the brain structure of 40 former staffers at the US Embassy in Havana.

The attacks have also occurred in China, Russia and Austria, and have long been suspected to be connected to Russia. Many victims were intelligence officers or emissaries working on Russian-related issues.

A CIA task force headed by an official who was involved in the search for Osama Bin Laden is currently probing the cause of the hard-to-diagnose symptoms, which have reportedly afflicted as many as 200 Americans…

“It could be that the attacks were outsourced to organized crime, but it is very difficult to understand why the Russians or anyone else would do this. It seems like a campaign to hurt people for no apparent reason.”

The “West” may be clinically dead, but it’s reassuring to know that the reflex of our collective, knee-jerk obsession with guilt still works.

But It Was Done Orderly

I’m sure. The seven (7) people evacuated from Kabul on the first German flight out were evacuated orderly and comfortably.

Not like the 800 people on board that C-17A cargo jet up there.

A first German military plane to land in Kabul since the Taliban takeover evacuated only seven people, the government said on Tuesday, due to chaos at the Afghan capital’s airport.

Germany, which had the second largest military contingent in Afghanistan after the United States, wants to airlift thousands of German-Afghan dual nationals as well as rights activists, lawyers and people who worked with foreign forces.

German CO2 Doesn’t Stink

Distracted while showing the rest of the world how to best go green, sneaky German greenhouse emissions grew by the largest leap since 1990.

Germany is forecast to slip back below the threshold it had set for cutting greenhouse gases by 2020, amid a post-pandemic recovery and unfavorable conditions for renewable energy, according to a report by an environmental think tank Sunday.

Berlin-based Agora Energiewende examined data from the first half of 2021 to forecast that total emissions in Germany this year will be equivalent to somewhere between 760 million to 812 million tons of CO2.

This would put Germany’s emissions about 35-39% below 1990 levels. The German government had pledged to achieve cuts of 40% by 2020 — a target it claimed to have reached last year, in large part due to the pandemic-related economic downturn.

This year’s rebound of about 47 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2021 would be the biggest increase since 1990, Agora Energiewende said.

Germany won’t give money to Afghanistan if Sharia law is introduced -foreign minister.

Germany will not provide any financial support to Afghanistan if the Taliban takes over power in the country and introduces Sharia law, its foreign minister told broadcaster ZDF on Thursday.

If that doesn’t strighten them up, the central European country is also considering holding its breath until it turns blue in the face.

Instead of a Covid vaccination?

Well, at least they won’t be catching Saline, right? Will they need a second shot?

A nurse is being investigated by police in Germany for allegedly replacing Covid-19 vaccines with saline solution.

The nurse replaced the vaccines between March and April this year at Roffhausen immunization center in Friesland, northwest Germany, the Friesland district administrator, Sven Ambrosy, said on Facebook Tuesday.

“Today I had the sad duty to inform around 8,600 people who may have been affected that it cannot be ruled out they may have received a saline solution instead of their vaccination at their vaccination appointment. For peace of mind we would recommend people get an additional vaccination,” Ambrosy said.

No More Free Testing?

Now, instead of having to pay for it, they have to pay for it. What a rotten deal.

Germany to Stop Free COVID-19 Tests – Germany wants to end free coronavirus tests in October, the RND group of newspapers reported on Monday, citing a draft proposal to be discussed by Chancellor Angela Merkel and leaders of the country’s 16 states.

The government made the tests free for all in March to make a gradual return to normal life possible after a lockdown to break a third wave of COVID-19.
