To Boldly Go Where No Syrian Refugee Has Gone Before

To boldly go and find your way around “official” Berlin, for instance.

Arriving in Berlin

European refugee crisis: Berlin group create digital map of resources for new arrivals.

More power to you. The Lord helps those who help themselves, I say.

The map, “Arriving in Berlin,” which is available in English, Farsi and Arabic, shows over 250 different services, including experts in residence and asylum law, German language classes, public libraries and doctors who speak Arabic or Farsi.

Lampertheim, Blankenfelde-Mahlow, Remseck…

Beautiful German arson attack(s) of the week.

Arson

Because somebody has to notice they’re happening.

German Of The Day: Blitzabschiebungen

That means fast-track deportations and they are scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Tempelhof

Germany will begin accelerating deportations for migrants who “have no claim” to be in the country in order to focus efforts on refugees from worn-torn countries, government officials have said.

New measures aiming to fast track asylum and extradition procedures for migrants from southeastern Europe, and concentrate on refugees from countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, could begin as early as next week, rather than 1 November as previously anticipated.

Meanwhile, at good old used-to-be Tempelhof Airport in Berlin…

Berlin officials say they’re hastily constructing temporary housing facilities in a hangar in the German capital’s former Tempelhof Airport to accommodate a predicted influx of asylum-seekers.

The city said in a statement Saturday that Berlin expects 1,000 people to arrive this weekend based upon the numbers coming across the border from Austria.

It says 90 other facilities are all full, so firefighters, soldiers, disaster-relief workers and volunteers are busily erecting 73 large tents inside a hangar at the famous former airport, which was closed in 2008.

Haus-in-Haus-Lösung” nennt der Senat das: Rund 500 Flüchtlinge sollen die Zelte im Hangar 1 des Flughafens Tempelhof künftig bewohnen, später dann 1000.

German Thoroughness Grossing Refugees Out

It’s taking too long to get their asylum papers processed, you see. So now they’re suing. And winning, of course.

Lawyers

A Somali man has won his suit against the German government for failure to act on his asylum application. Despite their increased workload, the federal office for refugees now has three months to decide his fate.

It’s one thing to flee for your life and seek refuge in a country that is apparently willing to help you out. It’s quite another thing to actually have to wait for months until your paperwork gets processed. That’s unmenschlich (inhuman) or something. Just call Larry the Lawyer. He’ll make it happen.

“Sie behandeln uns wie in Syrien.”

Border Patrol German-Style

German marines have rescued 200 (now over 400) refugees shortly after launching two ships to scour waters between Africa and Europe.

Border Patrol

The ship “Hessen” evacuated the boat in distress about 250 kilometers south of the Italian island Lampedusa. The refugees were brought to an Italian port, the German army said after discussions with Italian marine rescue officials.

The “Hessen,” along with the “Berlin,” also a Bundeswehr ship, were warned of a refugee distress situation on Monday morning. The ships had begun their search mission on Tuesday, when they sailed from Crete towards the sea area between Libya and Italy.

No Easter Peace March Planned For Tröglitz This Year

You know, the place where after getting the mayor to hightail it out of town and burning down a planned asylum seekers‘ home on Easter Sunday, right-wing nut jobs are now threatening to behead the local district administrator if asylum seekers start arriving in May as originally planned?

Peace

German peace activists will be protesting against the real forces of evil like NATO, instead. The same procedure as every year, James.

The Easter marches reached their peak in support between 1968 and 1983, when events throughout West Germany brought hundreds of thousands out onto the streets annually to demonstrate against issues such as Washington’s military involvement in Vietnam and the nuclear arms race.

Happy Easter!

Asylum seekers’ accommodation set on fire in suspected far-right arson attack in Germany

Tröglitz

A centre for asylum seekers has been set on fire in a suspected arson attack in Germany.

Police are investigating the blaze in the town of Tröglitz, where the mayor quit last month after a far-right protest was held outside his home.

“This is a lasting disgrace for Tröglitz…that could have many unforeseen consequences.”

Zwölf Uhr Mittags

The plot is a little different here in Germany, though.

High Noon

Senior German politicians warned on Tuesday that basic freedoms were threatened after a mayor in an eastern town resigned saying local authorities had failed to stop a far-right protest outside his house.

The elected and unpaid mayor of Troeglitz said on Monday he feared for his family’s safety after the National Democratic Party (NPD) announced the rally against his plans to house asylum seekers.

Germany A New Nation Of Immigrants?

I think you may have overshot the mark here, Christian Science Monitor. But nice try.

Arson

The reality here is still another one.

Far-right arsonists are believed to have caused fires which damaged three buildings earmarked for asylum seekers near Nuremberg in southern Germany.

“Es spricht einiges dafür, dass es sich um Brandstiftung handelt.”

PS: Oddity 325. Germans really do tend to equate nationality with ethnicity.
