Give The People What They Want

Not. “Never ever,” as the Germans like to say in English. It’s what Merkel & Co want that counts.

Laschet

Or maybe they used Dominion voting machines to select this guy? Jeez. This is almost as bad as back home in the Banana Republic of America.

Germany: Poll shows low support for new CDU head as Merkel successor – Armin Laschet, just elected to chair Angela Merkel’s CDU party, seems little preferred by Germans as a candidate to succeed her as chancellor in September. One pollster puts him on 12% with Bavaria’s Markus Söder on 43%.

Meet Merkel’s Mini-Me Man

The other two candidates competing for the job of CDU party boss had actually stood up to her in the past. They never had a chance.

Laschet

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right party on Saturday chose Armin Laschet, the pragmatic governor of Germany’s most populous state, as its new leader — sending a signal of continuity months before an election in which voters will decide who becomes the new chancellor.

Laschet defeated Friedrich Merz, a conservative and one-time Merkel rival, at an online convention of the Christian Democratic Union. Laschet won 521 votes to Merz’s 466. A third candidate, prominent lawmaker Norbert Roettgen, was eliminated in a first round of voting.

But who am I to criticize how other countries run their elections? I am a citizen of the Banana Republic of America.

Lockdown, Lockdown Light, Lockdown 2, Mega-Lockdown…

Angela Merkel is preparing her subjects for the next phase of effective government measures against COVID-19: The Mega-Lockdown.

Lockdown

Still remember, my fellow Americans? It has been a few weeks after all. As mainstream media repeatedly preached to us about Germany having the Corona pandemic under control?

It sure is reassuring to know that people like Angie & Co. are from the government and they’re here to help.

Merkel wants ‘very fast action‘ against virus after record deaths.

While Germany’s total deaths per capita since the start of the pandemic remain far lower than in the United States, its daily per capita mortality since mid-December has often exceeded the U.S. rate.

“The virus can only be stopped with additional efforts.”

German Of The Day: Problematisch

That means problematic.

Trump

Germany’s Merkel: Trump’s Twitter eviction ‘problematic’ – Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman says the German leader considers the U_S_ President Donald Trump’s eviction from Twitter by the company “problematic.”

“This fundamental right can be intervened in, but according to the law and within the framework defined by legislators — not according to a decision by the management of social media platforms. Seen from this angle, the chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the U.S. president have now been permanently blocked.”

Salvation Complex

Is not all that complex, really.

Salvation

Germany remains the “country of prohibitions.” Why? Because Germans like them. „Verboten ist, was nicht ausdrücklich erlaubt ist.“ Whatever is not expressly allowed is forbidden.

In truth, Germany’s salvation complex is deeply and culturally ingrained, and has a track record for giving rise to the kind of blind activism that typically hurts stated objectives in the end. As Chancellor Angela Merkel battles to keep the lights on for households and businesses barely coping with record-high energy prices thanks to the much-hyped Energiewende, it is clear that German’s hamfisted attempt at a speedy energy transition is the most tragic example of environmental zealousness to date.

Germans Fear Trump Supporters Might Storm The Reichstag

I mean, the Bundestag. Some kind of tag. And maybe burn it down or something too. Been there done that, you know?

Trump

That’s why they are increasing police protection there. Looks like up to a dozen more cops or so. Wow. You can never be too careful when it comes to Trump supporters, after all. Here in Germany.

By the way, Trump supporters already stormed the place back in August only they weren’t Trump supporters so there was no moral outrage or hand-wringing concern at that time. Sensibilities can change though, I guess.

Berliner Polizei verstärkt Schutz des Bundestags.

German Of The Day: Reisewarnung

That means travel warning.

Travel

In this case for The Banana Republic of America itself!

Germany issues travel warning for Washington after attack on Capitol – Germans have been told to avoid central Washington, DC, following Wednesday’s storming of the Capitol building. It’s one of several advisories the German Foreign Ministry carries about travel to the United States.

What Prevented The…

What prevented the token woman from getting her diet coke from the soda machine?

Quotas

She didn’t have enough quotas to pay for it.

Germany has taken a step toward requiring what has not happened voluntarily: putting women on the management boards of the country’s largest companies.

On Wednesday, Germany’s cabinet approved a draft law that would require stock exchange-listed companies with executive boards of more than three members to have at least one woman and one man on those boards.

Diverse German Storms To Get Diverse German Storm Names

Only they’re not German. The names. You can’t make this stuff up, people.

Storm

Even the weather in Germany must submit to the dictates of the Diversity Cult.

Move over, Siegfried. Ahmet is on the way.

A journalists’ group has named a low pressure system bringing low temperatures, dark clouds and snow to Germany after the boy’s name of Turkish origin in an effort to increase the visibility of the country’s increasingly diverse population.

“So far, our weather had mostly typical German names only, even though 26% of people in Germany have migrant roots.”

Cars That Don’t Emit CO2 Doing Irreversible Harm To The Environment

In German Unicorn-Land they can, at least.

Cars

All roads lead to irreversible harm to the environment here. It’s not easy to do these kind of mental mind twists but anybody can do them eventually if you try.

‘He’s a risk-taker’: Germans divided over Elon Musk’s new GigaFactory – The Tesla project will put Grünheide on the map, but some say it is doing ‘irreversible’ harm to the environment.

PS: Germans don’t like risk. How could they like a risk-taker?
