Diplomacy Is Everything
Just ask Donald Trump (after he gets off the phone with Australia). He and the new German foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) ought to get along just fine. He’s coming for a visit to Washington today. If they let him through airport security, I mean.

“He actually means it and I think we must dress warmly (be prepared).”

German Calls For More Gun Control In Crazy Canada Not All That Loud For Some Reason
Strange. When shootings like these take place in Nutty US-Amerika that’s the first thing you hear.
But maybe it does make sense, sort of. Canada already has strict gun control laws so crimes like these can’t and therefore didn’t just happen.

Next Misleading Berlin Wall Comparison Just In!
This happens regularly, of course. The cool thing about this particular one is that it comes from the mayor of Berlin himself.
Michael Müller (SPD), apparently not all too familiar with the history of his own city, has implied through a message he sent to President Trump on Friday that the wall he is planning to build on Mexico’s border is somehow comparable to the infamous one that divided Berlin for decades. “Divisive?” Certainly. Most walls are divisive, as far as I know. Otherwise they wouldn’t call them walls.
But what Müller and others bend over backwards to ignore here is that the one in Berlin was built to keep people “in.” You know, like a prison wall? The planned Trump wall, however, is being built to keep people “out.”
Now I understand that I am being an annoying stickler for details here but one really ought to consider this from time to time. Before the next misleading comparison comes over the wires, I mean. Because you’ll be hearing them regularly, like I say.

Of 17 German officers and 30 Belgian troops who have just arrived in Lithuania?
I’m scared, too. Or at least I was. That I hadn’t read that right, I mean. But now I’m scared again because I checked once more and I did read that right: German troops land in Lithuania amid Russia fears.
Though political parties within Germany – whose national history makes it a hesitant military leader – clashed over the deployment of German troops, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite greeted Germany’s decision to lead the NATO forces as a “breakthrough” for the future of European defense.
Moscow, on the other hand, has criticized the move as an example of NATO aggression against Russia.

Leading German Fake News Provider Upset That News It Calls Real Now Being Called Fake By Others
Aghast (along with CNN) at allegations by President-elect Donald Trump that the fake news they and other major fake news purveyors regularly claim to be real is actually fake, German fake news provider Der Spiegel now claims that the President-elect’s allegations are “like totally fake already.”
“He can’t be serious, can he? Let’s get real here, people,” said one empörter (indignant) journalist in Hamburg. “He’s faking it. And I know a fake when I see one. That’s my job. And I mean that. For real.”
Fake News ist für manche die unbelastete Variante von “Lügenpresse” und ein bequemes Schlagwort für alles Neue, was einem nicht in den Kram passt. Auch in Deutschland findet das Nachahmer bei jenen, die die von ihnen sogenannten Mainstream-Medien ins Visier genommen haben.
German Of The Day: Nafris
That’s short for North African men.
And the police in Cologne “did good” on New Year’s Eve by aggressively questioning, detaining and expelling the roughly thousand (1000) North African men who came to Cologne’s central station to try to raise hell with German women again, just like they had done the previous year (Why are these multiple offenders still in Germany, you ask? Practically everybody else in Germany is asking themselves that same question these days, too.).
But the police in Cologne “did bad” by using the word Nafris, German Green women tell us. Because, well, that’s short for North African men.
Get it? Me, neither.

Is There A Pattern Developing Here?
A group of six men, suspected of trying to set a homeless man on fire in a Berlin subway on Christmas Eve have turned themselves in to police. A seventh man, believed to be the main perpetrator, has been arrested.
What the Deutsche Welle refuses to tell you here, however, is that six of these men were from Syria and the seventh from Libya, most of them already “polizeilich bekannt” (known to the police). Here illegally (they won’t have any passports, either), known to the police and out and about to participate in lively cultural exchange activities? Didn’t we just have something like that in Berlin recently?
