After making clear to the public how unacceptable it is for Germans to go it alone (Alleingang), the German government went alone yet again.

While stressing how important it is to find a “European solution” to the migrant crisis (which will never come) and how all European countries must share in bearing the burden of taking in the migrants Germany invited to Europe in the first place (another German Alleingang), the Germans have decided to unilaterally take in a large number of migrants who set fire to their refugee camp for this very purpose. They know how Germans tick much better than the Germans do.

Germany to take in some 1,500 migrants from Greece – Angela Merkel’s government has said Germany will take in additional migrants from Greece and in particular Lesbos. More than 12,000 people were left homeless by fires at the refugee camp Moria.

Germans fear Donald Trump more than coronavirus – Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump tops the list of things Germans fear the most, a new survey found.

Trump ranks number one this year on Germans’ list of fears at 53%. The US president has topped the R+V fear scale as early as 2018.

The govenment might not directly admit it but the days when they at least strove to reach a balanced budget (black zero) are over.

Germany’s spending to counter the coronavirus crisis and modernize its economy means the country shouldn’t return to a balanced budget anytime soon, according to a senior Finance Ministry official…

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government abandoned its balanced-budget policy this year and is set to borrow about 218 billion euros ($258 billion). A deficit of more than 80 billion euros is set for next year to fight the fallout from the pandemic, people familiar with the matter have said…

Germany’s constitutional debt brake obliges the government to keep debt under control. In good times, the rule allows for a structural deficit of 0.35% of gross domestic product. In times of recession, new borrowing can go up in proportion with the economic decline.

It’s been twenty-four hours at least. Our fingers are getting itchy.

I know, riding your motorcycle on Sundays!

Noise in Germany keeps a strict schedule. Every night after 10 p.m. and on Sundays, Germans are required by a medley of federal, state and local laws to keep schtum. That means no spin cycles, no vacuuming, no power tools and no mowing the lawn.

As the world went into lockdown this spring, a drop in noise levels was recorded across the globe. But in most of Germany, it wasn’t much quieter than an average Sunday, when socializing is done sotto voce and the peal of church bells is about as loud as it gets.

Berlin bans large weekend protests against coronavirus restrictions, citing health grounds – The city government of Berlin has called off several planned weekend protests, the largest of which on Saturday expected to draw 20,000 people or more. The organizers plan to challenge the move in court.

Anyone who does not conform to the red-redder-green party line is immediately labeled a right-wing extremist. Works every time.

New Law Proposed in Germany Demands Dog Owners Take Pets on an Hour-Long Walk Twice a Day.

I’ve been told that another new proposed law would force German dogs to teach their owners to roll over and play dead every time the government asks them to but the political opposition insists that this would be unnecessary government intervention as this has already long been the case.

“They’ll be telling cat owners how often they need to change their litter trays next.”

We’ve actually got two today: Islamistisch motiviert and Psychiatrie.

Islamistisch motiviert means Islamist motivated and Psychiatrie means psychiatry. You know, Islamist motivated like the attack with the car in Berlin yesterday? And psychiatry as in admitted to psychiatric care like the Islamist who carried it out?

A pattern is developing here. Islamists who regularly do this type of thing in Germany are admitted to psychiatric care while the people who let them in are allowed to continue holding office as if they were sane.

It’s the easiest place in Europe to do this kind of thing and everybody who’s anybody in the crime and terror world knows it. I’m sure that will soon change though. Not.

Germany sees record spike in money laundering cases – Germany’s Financial Intelligence Unit says suspected cases of money laundering and terrorist financing jumped by 50% in 2019. The real estate market is especially vulnerable when it comes to suspicious transactions.

Personally, I think it’s time to start talking about the 2-day work week. But that’s just me. I’m a visionary or something.

Germany’s biggest union calls for 4-day week to save thousands of jobs – Germany’s automotive and industrial sectors were already undergoing huge structural changes before the pandemic struck. The IG Metall union thinks a shorter working week could now help prevent mass layoffs.

In the upcoming union talks, Hoffman said IG Metall would call for a wage increase for workers, despite the recession.
